This is a great post. A colleague and I wrote an academic article on Barstool's Fratriachy and the parallels to Proud Boys. We are team teaching a course on Barstool's gender politics next semester and will have our students read this. It should lead to some really good discussion.
Never charged, never sued. You left that out, as well.
And they’re not unknown “accusers”. One was the OF woman that licked the toilet seat during Covid and flashed the portal, Ava Louise. (BI contacted dozens of women he was linked to for their hit piece, left that out, also) Oh, and he spoke out against the SC’s decision on abortion. Left that out, too.
Speaking out against the Roe decision is an extremely hollow gesture if you're going to turn around and publicly endorse the person who put overturning it in motion in the first place. It's pandering to young women, which is my exact argument in this piece. If you want to simp for Portnoy you're more than welcome to seek out any of the ample online spaces dedicated to doing so.
Love that you brought up “there is an unrelenting competition for who can be the most coarse, insensitive, and nihilistic” in relation to Gen Z. Even as a cusper — 1996 — I was relatively unaware of this side of internet humor this before reading that RS article you linked a month or so ago. Such a bizarre phenomenon 🙄
I think you raise many valid points about Portnoy being a sick, weird man that should not be propped up to the level that he is. But I do find it comical that you sit here and type away your shame for women having conservative viewpoints. It’s this lack of awareness that being a woman and a republican is not mutually exclusive that is going to put Trump back in the White House this November. Portnoy is childish, and all of the problematic allegations of how he’s treated women are disgusting. But you would be woefully ignorant in saying he is the only celebrity/ public persona where people excuse or overlook his misdeeds.
I don’t sense a drop of “typing away shame” in this, actually. It reads to me as a commentary on the intersection of media, morals, and memory — pushing readers to question what we allow ourselves to forget over time for the sake of being entertained
jax i truly am your biggest fan! every single thing you post resonates so deeply and contributes to such important conversations! this is an excellent read!!

That makes me so happy to hear!! Would also love to read your article
omg so would I! What a chilling / fascinating / APT comparison.
Yeah, it was one of those things that made sense pretty quickly and then, I think, has proven to be even more correct as the years have gone by. Here's the abstract: https://journals.humankinetics.com/view/journals/ssj/40/1/article-p96.xml
I posted this above, but please feel free to send an email to the corresponding author address on the article
That's kind of you. Here's a link to the abstract: https://journals.humankinetics.com/view/journals/ssj/40/1/article-p96.xml
If you are interested & can't gain access due to academia's gatekeeping, I'd be happy to send you a PDF.
Nothing about the $30m he raised during Covid for small businesses or the countless other fundraisers he’s done?
Of course not.
commendable work but not particularly relevant, charity work does not preclude someone from committing sexual assault

just for clarity, where, exactly, did she say he's the only celebrity / public persona whose misdeeds are overlooked? I missed that part.
